[EN] For her site-specific exhibition Ich_No_Gramm, Jeewi Lee transformed the project space of ZÖNOTÉKA into a tile-patterned coordinate system. Disguised as the interior of a butcher’s shop, bathroom or laboratory environment – a place for messy and experimental activities – from afar, the space resembles an augmented millimeter paper sheet. Traces, blots, movements and imprints are captured by the ephemeral artwork as evidence kept for forensic investigations. The tiles, as empty canvases, preserve the unnoticed. Lee’s installation is based on this ‘evidential force' and a ‘certification of presence’, which was pointed out by Roland Barthes when characterizing photography. The sterile, white environment is created only to picture the essence of evidence and presence, elevated into artistic realms and immediately visualized as part of a system. Analyzing the incidents captured by her installation, Lee will continuously intervene, break the static environment and present selected tile ensembles as ‘ichnograms’ on the gallery wall for aesthetic, forensic or medical observation. No contact occurs between two objects without leaving traces on one another. The Locard’s exchange principle serves as the core of the entire exhibition: The collected footprints will be the simple result of how guests, be it visitors or invited artists performing in the project space, interact with Lee’s platform and use it as a stage for their individual actions. Jeewi Lee selected various artistic positions that are conceptually aligned with her installation and contribute to the interactive process. Mari Matsutoya’s performance super/vision shares the subtle, in situ nature of the work and reacts to everyday actions by visitors. Alessandro Rauschmann has adapted the approach of his surprise-centered performance with bodily involvement to the setting provided by Ich_No_Gramm. To increase the possibility of creating messy and vibrant coordinates on the tile floor, Justin Miles invented colorful aperitifs and appetizers for the occasion. During the exhibition’s Finissage, Eva Vuillemin will present a video performance, summing up the one month long journey of an ever-changing map of imprints and interactions.
